The Explorer Remade

The exterior has an all new design that is extremely modern and cutting edge. It retains some of the traditional hallmark touches and features of the classic Explorer line, while at the same time blazing a new path for the contemporary SUV driver. It matches the current design aesthetic of Ford and maintains the heritage of the Explorer family. The interior features soft touch materials, a navigation system, and an intuitive layout. The 2011 Ford Explorer has a very low drag coefficient, the best in its class, which helps to improve gas mileage and reduce wind noise. The interior can fit seven passengers and still has plenty of room for cargo. Up to 80.7 cubic feet of space is available behind the first row seats. Second row seats have a 60/40 split-fold, and third row seats have a split-fold of 50/50. Leather clad interior is an option.

Engine Options for Your Needs

Two different engines will be offered on the Explorer. One is a powerful new EcoBoost 2.0 liter inline four turbocharger with 237 horsepower. The direct injection virtually eliminates the turbo lag. It will also provide an approximate 30% increase in mpg performance versus other SUVs in its class. A 3.5 liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft of torque will also be offered for those who want premium power and towing ability. This engine will allow you to tow up to 5,000 lbs., plenty for your camper, trailer or boat.

Performance Features Fit for Illinois

The terrain management system works with the available 4-wheel drive, keeping tabs on wheel slip and vehicle sway. It automatically and instantly delivers power to the wheels with the most traction when wheelslip is detected. There are settings for all types of terrain from sand to snow and settings can be changed on the fly. The Hill Descent Control is a great feature that lets you press a button and tap your brakes. This tells the Explorer to maintain a stable speed, so that all you have to focus on is steering the vehicle. A Power Liftgate is available and can be activated by your key fob. Heated and cooled front seats are available, as are Rain Sensing Wipers. These are some great features that should prove useful for Peoria Ford drivers, especially those who enjoy taking their vehicles off road into the fields and woods of Illinois or down by the Illinois River and other waterways for some boating action.

Technology

This SUV has been filled with technology and amenities that are sure to please. MyFord Touch puts an 8" touch screen in the dash that can be customized to your liking and controls your music, phone, navigation, and even the climate in the cabin. An available Sony Audio system provides 12 speakers and a subwoofer, so you'll have plenty of power to enjoy your favorite songs. SYNC technology allows you to connect your phone, use navigation, see weather and sports, search for music and more via voice activation. Dual headrest DVD players with 7" LCD widescreen monitors are available. The Active Park Assist System essentially parallel parks for you, using ultrasonic sensors to do so three times faster than competing systems. Sweet, safe and a feature you probably wish was included on your drivers education car.

Revolutionary Safety Features

The 2011 Ford Explorer features the world's first inflatable rear safety belts. These will assist in the safety of anyone who wears them by helping to reduce head and neck injuries in the even of an accident. A Blind Spot Information System lets you know when a vehicle is in your blind spot and that you should wait to switch lanes. An available rear view camera supplies a video image on the MyFord Touch screen of what the space behind your vehicle looks like, ensuring you won't run over anything in the process. The exclusive Adaptive Cruise Control detects slower traffic in front of you, automatically slows and resumes speed, plus it can alert the driver if a collision could occur. The Trailer Sway Control, which comes standard, initiates countermeasures if it detects trailer sway, including asymmetrical braking and reducing engine speed. Curve Control provides great control in the midst of turning.
